TARGET: TRAFICANT The outrageous never-before-told inside story of how the Justice Department, the Israeli lobby and the mass media conspired to set up and take down Ohio’s outspoken Congressman Jim Traficant . . .

. . . From the pen of AFP correspondent Michael Collins Piper — the only journalist Jim Traficant agreed to speak to from prison after being convicted on trumped-up corruption charges. Traficant wouldn’t even speak to The New York Times!

If you ever had any doubt whether Jim Traficant was guilty of the charges on which he was convicted, they’ll be erased after you’ve read this amazing volume. The media was lying to you all along.

Here are the facts . . .

THE MASS MEDIA IN AMERICA played a considerable role in the illicit set-up and take-down of Congressman Jim Traficant by corrupt elements inside the Justice Department and the FBI. Time and again the media LIED to the people of Traficant’s congressional district and to all of the American people when they reported on the Traficant case. Only American Free Press told you the truth about the WHY and HOW of the Traficant case and why “THEY” were out to get him, determined to silence this courageous U.S. congressman. TARGET: TRAFICANT examines the campaign to “get” Traficant and exposes it for the outrageous fraud that it was. You’ll be astounded to see the lengths to which crooked prosecutors went to destroy Jim Traficant — a story you need to know about!

Here’s the Evidence Proving Beyond Any Doubt ‘They’ Railroaded Jim Traficant:

Jim Traficant refuses to accept a presidential pardon (or a reduction in his federal prison term) for this very simple reason: he will not agree to admit to — and apologize for — crimes he did not commit . . .

In TARGET: TRAFICANT, veteran author Michael Collins Piper—whom Jim Traficant has said was the only journalist to tell his story truthfully and correctly from the beginning—has assembled this eye-opening and disturbing overview of the campaign by high-level forces to set up and take down the no-nonsense populist congressman.

If you have ever had any doubts about Traficant’s integrity—doubts instilled by a long-standing media cacophony attacking Traficant—you’ll soon realize that the Traficant case represents one of the most outrageous and thoroughly illegal hit-and-run operations ever orchestrated in our “democracy.” It is perhaps all too representative of the high-level corruption for which the “Justice” Department has been found responsible time and time again.

Piper dissects the intrigues of the Justice Department and the FBI (as well as the maneuvers by the federal judge who oversaw the Traficant trial) and demonstrates, beyond any doubt, that Jim Traficant was absolutely innocent of all of the charges on which he was convicted . . .

TARGET: TRAFICANT features a special appendix outlining the whole shocking story of the Budd Dwyer affair!

Twenty years ago, Michael Collins Piper was the only journalist on the entire planet to expose the outrageous Justice Department and FBI frame-up of Pennsylvania State Treasurer Budd Dwyer . . .

On January 21, 1987, following his conviction on trumped-up corruption charges and facing a lengthy prison term, Dwyer continued to protest his innocence; and—at a crowded press conference broadcast on live television — Dwyer shot himself. Moments before he died, Dwyer begged for the press to tell his story, but his plea was ignored by the major media. Independent journalist Michael Collins Piper was the only one to take up Dwyer’s challenge . . .Now — in TARGET: TRAFICANT — Piper has turned his attention to the equally outrageous (and successful) campaign by the Justice Department and the FBI to destroy Jim Traficant.

Target: Traficant Serves as Warning,
Wake-Up Call for America

By Anne D. Cronin

[In this article the author combines some of her own thoughts with points made by Michael Collins Piper in the Introduction to Target: TRAFICANT]

The totality of the evidence demonstrates beyond any question that the judicial lynching in 2002 of former Congressman Jim Traficant (D-Ohio) by corrupt elements inside the U.S. Department of [so-called] Justice was, beyond any question, an outrageous politically motivated frame-up.
Even the vicious targeting of the late Pennsylvania State Treasurer Budd Dwyer (who committed suicide in 1987 after being unfairly prosecuted for crimes he did not commit) virtually pales in comparison.
There is absolutely no doubt that Traficant was thoroughly and completely innocent of the false charges upon which he was convicted and sent to prison. Although Traficant remains in prison and is likely to serve out his term — apparently the longest term levied in recent years against any member of Congress — we can only hope that the new book Target: Traficant will serve as a warning to Americans of what they can expect in the days ahead unless they finally rise up and take hold of their government and bring the real criminals to justice.
Although there are probably dozens of members of Congress who could be indicted and convicted for major criminal offenses involving high-stakes bribery and influence peddling that is often quite open and never prosecuted, the Justice Department spent many years and millions of dollars coming up with a handful of dubious charges against Traficant.
Ask anyone who knows how it works in official Washington and they’ll privately admit that the real reason Traficant was indicted on criminal charges was simply the fact that “the powers that be” didn’t like Traficant: he was just too honest and too outspoken. Here were some of Traficant’s real “crimes” in the eyes of the elite who railroaded him into federal prison:
• Criticizing the Internal Revenue Service and calling for expanded protections for the rights of taxpayers under fire from the IRS;
• Taking a hard-line stand against NAFTA, the World Trade Organization, and so-called “free” trade and urging protectionist measures to preserve American jobs and defend domestic industry from predatory global speculators;
• Tackling not only corruption inside the FBI and the Justice Department, but also personally assailing the integrity of former Attorney General Janet Reno;
• Attacking Wall Street wheeling and dealing and raising questions about the enrichment of high-level financial interests through the lending practices of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
•Accusing then-Vice President Al Gore of “trying to Target: Traficant Serves as Warning, Wake-Up Call for America steal the election” in the midst of the long-and-drawn-out post-election debacle in 2000;
• Calling for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from trouble spots around the globe and questioning constant U.S. meddling in the affairs of other nations;
• Charging American policy-makers with treason for having given top-secret U.S. defense and nuclear technology to the butchers in Peking;
• Coming to the defense of Ukraine-born Cleveland autoworker John Demjanjuk who was falsely charged by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations of being a “Nazi war criminal,” — only to be cleared, ironically, by an Israeli court. (Ultimately, with Traficant sidelined in his own federal trial, they went after Demjanjuk again on “new” charges and restarted the process of seeking to deport the beleaguered old man. Demjanjuk has been ordered to be deported; the final disposition of his case has yet to be determined.)
• Demanding that U.S. troops be sent to guard the Mexican border and prevent continuing hordes of illegal aliens — and potential terrorists — from entering into the United States; and — last but far from least:
• Challenging one-sided U.S. aid and support for Israel, saying that the biased policy was to the detriment of America’s security and Middle East interests.
Traficant was the only member of Congress — the day after the Sept. 11 tragedy — to point out that U.S. support for Israel and open borders were root problems leading to the tragedy.
While Traficant enunciated these truths, other members of Congress squirmed uneasily, sitting in silence, as Traficant spoke out — even in the face of his impending trial — never one to be cowed.
Traficant was most assuredly lynched by the Justice Department just as if he had been taken by force and hanged from a lamp post near the U.S. Capitol in Washington — a method of justice that certainly should be applied to many of the corrupt individuals who continue to misrule America from their positions in Congress and throughout official Washington.
However, what happened to Traficant could happen to any American should he or she fall into the gunsights of the powerful forces that reign supreme in America.
The Traficant case is the proverbial tip of the iceberg, for the truth is that sitting alongside Traficant in prisons today — federal, state and local — there are probably thousands of Americans who were as much victims of an unjust system as Traficant.
These people, too, are political prisoners in the plainest sense of the word. But we haven’t heard about these folks because they didn’t have the high public profile of the outspoken Jim Traficant.
So the lesson to be learned is very simple: Even someone in a position of influence — such as a U.S. congressman — can be railroaded into prison by the very people whose job it is to enforce the laws.

It appears Traficant was "rail-roaded" by the elite interests in this country. What is most troublesome is how so much of this was right under the noses of Congress, who saw no value in providing support where they could have done so. For as much exculpatory information apparently withheld from the jury it is no surprise Traficant was convicted. I am waiting for Traficant to have his turn. Traficant's story reminds me of Susan Lindauer and her book "Extreme Prejudice". She was an American and CIA asset for the CIA who spent five years in jail under the Patriot Act after 9/11. Paul Findley was a Congressman who disturbed the American Jewish action groups. His book "They Dare Speak Out" details the dastardly actions of AIPAC and how they got in Dick Durbin to take his place. There were survivors of the USS Liberty, the most sophisticated communications warship of its time. It was purposefully attacked by Israel on a beautiful cloudless day during LBJ's term as President. Israel claimed they thought they were attacking a rusted Egyptian horse Calvary ship that was at the time sitting in a harbor waiting to be scrapped for its metal. Jeff Gates has an entire chapter devoted in his book "Guilt by Association" about the secret shame of the McCain family since Admiral McCain was charged with covering up the attack that killed 34 Navy men and injured far more. US Undersecretary of State George Ball also detailed this heinous crime by Israel in his book "The Passionate Attachment." Individuals like Traficant, Lindauer and Findley were successfully picked apart by a corrupted system. They all have a story to tell that is worth our time to listen. What would happen if there was a platform these individuals could band together and tell their stories? Their stories pushback our country toward a democracy, what others with no moral compass wish instead was a country of Fascism and Imperialism.
As Thomas Jefferson once said,
“No people can be both ignorant and free.”
The words of John F. Kennedy,
“I am not so much concerned with the right of everyone to say anything he pleases, as I am about our need as self-governing people to hear everything relevant.”
“How fortunate for government that the people they administer don't think.”

The book is poorly written and was clearly never edited. A better researched and documented case would have delivered a much more powerful story. That said, good credit to Piper for tackling the project and courageously telling the tale of a man who repeatedly tried to do the right thing. I met James Traficant just before his indictment on bribery and racketeering charges. I found him to be an exceptionally well-informed person who cared passionately about good government. His questions to me were insightful and sincere; it was clear to me that all he wanted was truth so he could make an informed decision. I answered him honestly and with candor; for that he later thanked me, noting that getting a straight answer in Washington, DC is an exceptionally rare event. I've met many Members of Congress - none impressed me more than James Traficant.

As for his guilt, I believe what my own eyes and ears revealed - a good man trying to serve the public he loved with compassion, grace and truth. I only wish we had many more people like James Traficant to rely on. He got his wish to be "beamed up", but far too early.

Good story about the last man standing in Congress that spoke openly and truthfully about the crooked DC business and was crucified for it.

The review by golgotha.gov is very good, and I can't write a better one right now. I agree with most of what golgotha.gov wrote (I do think, after researching the issue and speaking with Jim Traficant myself, that the national sales tax makes sense -- see http://www.projectfreedomusa.org/about-1.html). So, I'll simply add that even though the quality of writing might not deserve 5 stars (it's written pretty well, though), it more than deserves the 5 stars, because the author shines a light on the establishment criminals who rule over us, provokes us to question men in power, and tells the true story that no one else had the guts to tell.
